Masai Mara & Musiara Sector
The Masai Mara is a wildlife paradise, famous for its stunning landscapes and diverse animal population. The Musiara sector of the national park is where Governors’ Il Moran Camp is located. This gives guests front row seats to the great migration and unparalleled game viewing, with up to two game drives per day included in the nightly rate to make the most of your experience.
About Musiara Sector
Musiara Sector is located on the northern side of the Masai Mara and is geographically demarcated by the Mara and Talek rivers. This creates a fertile ecosystem that attracts the wildebeest during the migration season. The sector is also known for the Musiara Marsh, which attracts wildlife during the dry season, including elephants, buffalo, and hippos. It is particularly known for the Big Cats Diary, a program that aired from 1996 to 2008 on BBC. You can access this area using the Musiara Gate when driving from Nairobi or Musiara Airstrip, if you are flying from Nairobi.

Demerits of Staying at Governors’ Il Moran
It’s one of the highly rated camps in the Masai Mara, but it has some shortcomings you should consider before booking. One of the most significant drawbacks is the high cost, with a night’s stay costing around £700 per person per night. This price only includes accommodation and meals; therefore, you will need to pay extra for game drives, entry fees, flights, and other additional expenses.
The camp is also situated in a remote area, where travel logistics can be challenging. This means the best option is to fly to the nearby airstrip, which adds to the cost. If you are a businessperson, you may miss out on a lot due to limited access to Wi-Fi and electricity. For families, the camp is not suitable for those with young children, as it is designed for children aged 8 years and over.
TripAdvisor Reviews of Governors IL Moran Camp
Below are some reviews from people who have visited the camp before.
I cannot recommend the Il Moran camp highly enough!
“I cannot recommend the Il Moran camp highly enough. The setting is fantastic, overlooking the Mara River, with hippos bathing throughout the day; the staff are so friendly and attentive; the “tents” are first class, the food is superb, and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Our guide, Enos, ensured that we saw everything we wanted to and more; he was knowledgeable and helpful throughout. We enjoyed breakfasts and lunches in the bush, as well as a fantastic hot air balloon ride. He kept us away from the crowds, so it truly felt like we had the whole of the Masai Mara to ourselves (along with the animals, of course). The team (in conjunction with the Kuoni local rep) even managed to return a wallet to us that had been left in one of the safes before we left Kenya.” – Curiosity12775264694.
“Our stay at Il Moran was a significant experience. We felt so lucky to be so well cared for in such a beautiful place. The service and staff are amazing. Special shoutout to Stephen, Phillip, Lekolii, and Enos (our guide) for the positive impacts on our trip.” – Ella K.
