Table of Contents

Perched on a hill in the heart of Naboisho Conservancy, Basecamp Eagle View combines modern comfort with the wild beauty of the Maasai Mara. Following the recent upgrade, the camp feels fresh and intimate, and wildlife encounters feel intimate and genuine.

From your tent’s deck, you can see elephants grazing below or hear lions calling after sunset. With limited vehicles in the conservancy, safaris here are quieter and more intimate than those in the busier reserve next door.

Accommodation

Basecamp Eagle View has a range of eco-luxury tents, including family units. Each one is designed to be private and immersive.

Expect large decks with views across the plains, en-suite bathrooms featuring solar-heated water, and sustainable building materials that keep the camp’s impact low. The style is elegant and straightforward, allowing the landscape to be the star.

One of my favourite memories was waking up to wildebeest right outside my deck – it felt like the migration had come to my doorstep.

Facilities and Amenities

The camp is small but well-equipped. Meals are served in an elevated dining area with stunning views, and the infinity pool is perfect for a cool-down between game drives.

There’s also a wellness corner with Maasai-inspired massages. After long days in the sun, these little luxuries make a big difference.

Unique Features

What makes Eagle View special is its model of sustainable tourism. By staying here, you are directly supporting conservation projects and community initiatives in Naboisho Conservancy. The camp works closely with Maasai families who own the land, making tourism both responsible and rewarding.

During a village visit, I was struck by how proud the Maasai were to share their culture with me. Watching kids walk to school, funded by conservancy fees, made me realize that my safari was contributing to more than just memories.

Conservancy and Location

Naboisho Conservancy covers 50,000 acres of prime Maasai Mara habitat. It’s home to healthy populations of lions, cheetahs, elephants, and giraffes, with fewer visitors than the central reserve.

The camp’s hilltop position offers fantastic views, but the real magic happens on guided walks or game drives led by local Maasai guides. They’ll point out tracks, plants, and animal behavior in ways that will bring the bush to life.

On one morning walk, my guide showed me how giraffes choose specific trees to browse. I’d never thought about their feeding habits that deeply before – it changed the way I watched them afterwards.

Activities and Experiences

Guests can choose from day and night game drives, guided bush walks, and cultural visits. With limited vehicles allowed, sightings are never crowded, so you have space to take it all in.

Families will love the Young Explorers Club, which introduces kids to tracking wildlife and learning about conservation in fun, interactive ways.

If you’d rather slow down, simply relax on your deck, binoculars in hand – you’ll often see as much from camp as you do out on a drive.

Chill out

After the excitement of seeing big cats or elephants, downtime at Eagle View is just as sweet. Lounging areas overlook the plains, so sundowners are a daily ritual.

The infinity pool and spa treatments will relax you, and evenings are best spent around the campfire, swapping stories with fellow travellers and guides.

One night, after dinner, we sat under a sky so clear I could draw the Milky Way with my finger. I realised how rare true darkness is—and how amazing it feels to sit in it, surrounded by just the sound of crickets.

Basecamp Wilderness Initiative

The camp is part of the Basecamp Foundation, which runs conservation programs like habitat restoration, wildlife monitoring, and community training. Guests are encouraged to learn about and, where possible, participate in these activities.

By staying here, you’re not only having a top-notch safari—you’re helping the future of the Maasai Mara.

Prices and Packages

Basecamp Eagle View offers all-inclusive packages that cover accommodation, meals, and guided activities. Prices vary depending on season and tent type; family units available.

Optional extras include private game drives or extended visits to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Whatever you choose, the focus is on meaningful and sustainable travel.

Demerits of Eagle View

We researched what people are saying about this camp, and here are some of the potential limitations and drawbacks of staying at Basecamp Eagle View. To begin, the camp is situated in a secluded location within the Mara Naibosho Conservancy. This is both a benefit and a drawback, depending on what you are looking for. Some people prefer a location with other travellers.

It’s also unfenced. This is intended to provide an authentic safari experience, but it has the drawback of animals roaming around at night. It can be a disadvantage if you are travelling with a child. Additionally, there are limited rooms for young travellers, with only one room designated for family stays.

Magical!

“This place is fantastic. Every day was breathtaking. Our guide, Kiseme, made sure every safari day was filled with animals. The conservancy does things that make the treks perfect (limiting trucks and you can drive off the roads). Our driver asked us upfront about all the animals we wanted to see, and we saw them all (Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs, Baby Hippos, etc.). I even saw a Male lion eating a wildebeest’s head.

You will see everything except the Rhino. The camp is fantastic and of the highest quality. Our assigned server for the stay was Lucy, and she remembered all of our names and likes/dislikes. Every meal was fantastic, even small touches like receiving a personalized water bottle for the trips.

The sunrises/sunsets here are magic. The rooms all have private balcony views. It’s hard to call these “tents,” but they are indeed. If we wanted to go on safari again, we would skip Tanzania and just come here again. Cannot say enough good things about this lodge.” – Jeremy R.

Family safari

“Simply amazing! Excellent staff, great meals, fantastic game views, and cold beer – what more could you want? Ben served us our meals, and they were all top shelf. Dennis found us plenty of game, including a Leopard and a tortoise, on the way to the airport!! Stanley went out of his way to retrieve our son’s toy from Basecamp Masai Mara, and for this, he receives huge kudos!

The camp is mind-blowingly good and the views are to die for…We had such a great time, it was tough to leave. This is a truly special part of the world, with people who genuinely care, and it’s a privilege to be here.Highly recommended, go and enjoy. – Bergerski
